We
live four miles north of Colfax,
Wisconsin. It is a beautiful area. Farms, fields and
rolling hills - yet it is easy to get to town.
Nan
- Grew up in Port Wing,
Wisconsin. Became involved with horses through 4-H.
Competed in open and 4-H shows, showing at halter, showmanship, hunt
seat, western, and trail classes. Also competed in Horse
Judging, Hippology, Horse Bowl and other events at the state level.
- '89 ~ Attended
the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities for a BS in
Agriculture. Worked for the College of Veterinary Medicine for
several years. Worked with the research and teaching animals and
in a molecular biology lab.
- '93 ~ Attended the
University of Western Sydney - Hawkesbury, Australia through a
Summer School program. Also traveled to Sweden, England and
Scotland.
- '94 ~ Started her career in dressage with her
Thoroughbred mare. Competed at USDF/USEF recognized shows in the
Midwest.
- '98 ~ Moved to Stone Ridge, New York to work for a
research supplies company. Continued dressage career showing more
in the northeast. Met Chris!
- '00 ~ Moved to Lansing, Michigan to work for a
pharmaceutical company. Continued dressage career in the
Midwest. Purchased a Shire Sporthorse mare and became hooked on
Shires.
- '05 ~ Moved back to Port Wing, Wisconsin.
- '06 ~ Our first Shire foals born - Avie and Ellie.
- '07 ~ Purchased a farm in Colfax, WI. Moved in
the spring after Aurie was born. Traveled nationwide doing
consulting for biologics companies.
- '08 ~ Hard at work getting ready to open our Horse
Retirement Facility. Had a great first show season with our filly
Aurie being shown. Started working for the US Census Bureau for
the upcoming decennial census.
- '09 ~ 2 beautiful fillies! Started showing
Ellie in hand. Represented ourselves well at the Shire National
Show. Nan is working as an Independent Contractor again.
- '10 ~ Nan started riding Ellie. Jodie gave
birth to Worden, a perfectly marked colt with a wonderful attitude on
life. Corva started her show career - showing in hand.
Chris
- Grew up in Stone
Ridge, New York - a rural area (at that time, anyway) about 2 hours
north of NYC. Active in the Stone Ridge Volunteer Fire
Company. His life was the fire house for about 15 years!
- '90 ~ Graduated high
school - started working in the woods and trucking.
- '91 ~ Enlisted in the
US Army, but a motorcycle ended his career before it began.
- '93 ~ Serious injury
in the woods ended his logging career. [For you superstitious people,
Chris tore all the ligaments in his left leg on the same day that he
injured the same leg 2 years previous.] He started trucking over
the road and saw much of the country. He always thought he would
like to start his own business hauling horses, but once he met Nan he
realized what that would really be like!
- '98 ~ Met Maddy (Nan's dog became Chris's)!
Started getting used to horses and attending shows.
- '01 ~ He and Nan purchased their first property a
year after moving to Michigan.
- '04 ~ Fell hard for three big, black Shire mares
when he and Nan went to see a Shire Sporthorse for her.
- '05 ~ The Shire breeding business began with Talulla
- a big, black Shire mare :) .
- '07 ~ Officially a horse person now - he attended
the birth of Aurie.
- '08 ~ Busy fixing up our new farm.
- '09 ~ Got Chris in the show ring at the National
Show.
