Mature Horses
(horses over 24 months)

April
Perform a Fecal Egg Count (FEC) on all horses.  Catagorize horses as 'worm shedders' based on the results:
  • <150 eggs per gram (epg) - low
  • 150-500 epg - moderate
  • >500 epg - high
Deworm all horses based to FEC results:
  • <500 epg - ivermectin
  • >500 epg - moxidectin
June - only the horses that received ivermectin in April
If FEC in April was >150 epg, deworm those horses with oxibendazole or pyrantel.

FEC on these horses 10-14 days later to make sure there's no dewormer resistance issues.

July
Deworm all horses with ivermectin/praziquantel

FEC on all horses

September

FEC on horses with >150 epg in July.
  • 150-500 epg and a low-moderate egg shedder throughout the year, deworm with oxibendazole or pyrantel
  • >500 epg or a high egg shedder throughout the year, deworm with moxidectin
October
FEC on horses with <150 epg in July.
  • 150-500 epg and a low-moderate egg shedder throughout the year, deworm with oxibendazole or pyrantel
  • >500 epg or a high egg shedder throughout the year, deworm with moxidectin
